The Statue of Zeus at Olympia

This is a picture of the Statue of Zeus. It was a famous statue sculpted by the famous sculptor Phidias. This sculpture of the god, Zeus, was created in about 457 BC. It consisted of expensive items such as ivory, ebony, gold, marble, and alabaster. The statue was first created in Olympia. Eventually, wealthy Greeks moved the statue to what is now Istanbul, Turkey.

This picture (above left) is a re-creation of the famous sculpture. The most interesting fact about the Statue of Zeus is that his sceptre that he holds was made out of every kind of metal. On top of Zeus's head was an olive hat ring.
